The energy transition is leading to a profound restructuring of the generation, storage, and use of electrical energy. Photovoltaic systems, battery storage systems, charging infrastructure for electric mobility and smart grids are becoming increasingly important. These applications share a common technological trend with direct current (DC) increasingly taking centre stage. Due to higher efficiency, lower conversion losses, and direct integration with renewable energy sources, DC technology is considered key to the success of the energy transition.
However, the increased use of DC systems is also leading to stricter electrical safety requirements. Power surges caused by lightning strikes, switching operations, or grid disturbances can damage equipment, cause outages, or, in extreme cases, lead to fires. In addition, direct current has the special characteristic that arcs are more difficult to quench than in alternating current systems. Protection concepts should therefore be designed to accommodate these conditions from the outset.
DEHN meets these requirements with its patented ACI (Advanced Circuit Interruption) technology, capable of interrupting DC arc faults using an integrated switch/spark gap combination. As a member of the Open Direct Current Alliance (ODCA), the company is positioning itself at The smarter E Europe as a technology partner for safe DC infrastructures. The focus of the trade fair participation is on protection solutions for PV applications in both residential and industrial settings, as well as for free field systems, battery storage systems and smart power grids. A technological highlight in the field of e-mobility infrastructure is the DEHNguard M DC ACI 1250 FM, a modular Type 2 surge arrester designed specifically for high-power charging (HPC) and fast-charging infrastructure up to 1250 V.
At DEHN’s 360° world in Hall A3, booth 120, alongside new products and customised protection solutions, the focus is on personal interaction, consultation, and dialogue on technical challenges, regulatory frameworks, and the issue of how to implement the energy transition safely and sustainably.
